Bridging the Gap is the mostly widely requested professional medical interpreting course today by medical institutions. Many linguists are nervous about learning medical terminology and especially: remembering it! BTG teaches it the way Physicians (his training) and Nurses (1WT owners' training) learned it: body system by body system: so it all makes sense and is easier to recall - it fits together like puzzle pieces! You will be surprised. Plus we have some tips to make it even easier than you would expect. Relax, breathe! Technique is the most important tip of all.
Brian has been teaching the BTG course and other medical interpretation courses for over 15 years. He was chosen by 1WT for his exceptional background, in the medical field, languages and for his interpreting experience; both as an interpreter, but also as an interpreter manager.
Born an American in Arkansas, Brian began his education in the United States. He earned a degree in French with a minor in both biology and mathematics from DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana.
Brian contemplated early on becoming both a Physician and traveling the world. He went to France and attended two years of medical school at the Universite de Louis Pasteur School of Medicine in Strasbourg, France. This allowed him to eventually shadow medical doctors in South Africa, France, Australia and the United States.
Brian served at the New York Presbyterian Hospital. All along these above mentioned journeys he realized the keen importance of properly trained medical interpreters. This became such a focus, he interrupted his Physician education path and embarked on new paths involving the world of Interpreting. He conducted interpreter related research in these venues to make both his work and instruction opportunities powerful- real life!
Brian served as Project Managers for several interpretation departments, and worked as a medical interpreter for French and Brazilian Portuguese and studied advanced American Sign Language at Gallaudet.
