Choosing between TCI and BTG

All of our courses cover ethics, professional conduct, focused skills, industry vocabulary, positioning, sight translation, interpreting modes, cultural mediation, intervention strategies and other vital skills.

The Community Interpreter®

The Community Interpreter® (TCI) course addresses working in community settings such as health and human services, schools and an introduction to the legal system. The instructor is very highly experienced in all areas and has received excellent feedback from her students.

TCI in-depth Information

Bridging the Gap®

Bridging the Gap® (BTG) courses focus on Medical Interpreting; including medical terminology, anatomy and physiology. Legal Interpreting is discussed briefly. BTG is offered as a 40 hour or 64 hour course.

Candidates may opt for the 64 hour course which presents behavioral health interpreting, in-depth exploration of cultural and advocacy challenges (including LGBTQIA) along with healthcare system disparities. Guidelines are offered for management by the medical interpreter. Additional glossaries in many languages are offered for the medical interpreting BTG courses and special mental health glossary is offered in Spanish/English. The 64 hour course just came out in 2017.

Ms. Weaver is a highly experience Psychiatric and Medical Registered Nurse and teaches all BTG courses. She also has many years of teaching and interpreting experience in many fields.

BTG -FAQ

Pre-Requisite: Language Proficiency Test

Allow us to get you started with the proficiency test so you can be assured of your qualification when you sign up for a course. It takes 30 – 60 minutes, in our office. We can set it up on short notice, but we prefer to schedule an appointment.
